How Togo is Leading the Way in Finding More Female Farmers

Farming cocoa in Togo has traditionally been seen as “a man’s occupation.” Land ownership is still largely male-dominated, but women in Togo are starting to change that through initiatives like the Kekeli Cocoa cooperative. Instead of struggling on their own to make ends meet, being part of a cooperative means the farmers can benefit from selling their products together, which will then, supported by fair trade organization Gebana, ultimately end up on the shelves of supermarkets like Esselunga, one of Italy’s leading retailers.
